A classic raglan construction worked seamlessly in the round from the top down. Stitches are picked up and knitted in the arm gap when the short sleeve is worked, in this way closing the arm gap at the underarm without seaming. A unique feature of this top is the edging which gives the appearance of basket weave or of a woven fabric. The hems, the cuffs and the neck edgings are knitted integrally with the main body, not woven or sewn on.
The top flares from the arm gaps to the hem which gives it positive ease around the abdomen and the hip. This top does not have bust darts or short-row bust shaping. If you have a full bust, consider adding to the length of the garment as the top when stretched across your bust will rise up from the hip area in the front. It is easy to add length by working additional rounds of stockinette stitch.
About the Sizes: The pattern is for 9 sizes ranging from XS to 5X.
Very few bodies conform to the standard classifications for size.
When choosing which size to make it can be helpful to look at the schematic on page 4.
To guide you in the process of deciding which size to make, the chart on page 4 has approximate measurements of the finished garment for each of the 9 sizes.
I consider it an intermediate skill level pattern.
Yarn:
The yarns used are beautiful Isager Strik yarns, a Danish brand. Entirely plant based yarns are the Trio and the Japansk Bomuld yarns. Cotton, flax and bamboo. They are lace weight yarns held together and worked on size US 6 or 4 mm needles which gives an open airy light weight finished texture which is ideal for humid and/or hot summers.
Isager Yarn can be purchased in many Local Yarn Shops across the USA; in addition all Isager Yarns are available online from TuttoSantaFe - very fast shipping (I am not associated with the business and I do not profit from their sales.
The gauge: 22 sts x 28 rows = 4” on US 6 / 4mm needles
It is recommended that you change the needle size if you don’t get the gauge.
XS, S: 2 skeins Trio and 3 skeins of Japansk Bomuld
M, L, 2 skeins Trio and 4 skeins Japansk Bomuld
XL, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X: 3 skeins Trio and 5 skeins Japansk Bomuld
The pattern calls for 2 colors of the Japanese Bomuld to be used for the neck border/collar. You will not need a full skein of the contrast color so if you have a partial skein in your stash you might be able to get away with purchasing one less than the above quantities of Japansk Bomuld in the main color.
